The picturesque, hilltop town of Gualdo is 1.6km away. It has a cafe, bank, restaurant, laundry, tennis club and basic shopping. Market day is Tuesday.
About 20 min drive away from Casa Principessa is the Riserva Naturale Abbadia di Fiastra. This vast 1800 hectare nature reserve consists of an agricultural area, streams and rivers, a 100 hectare wood and the Abbey of Chiaravalle di Fiastra. For more information, please click here.
The larger, charming spa town of Sarnano is 10 mins away and offers most services – restaurants, pizzerias, supermarkets, tennis courts, parks, butchers, hairdressers, etc. It is also home to the famous Fonte San Giacomo (see main picture above), a health spa with mineral spring water and a range of beauty treatments. Sarnano is one of the few towns in Le Marche with a preserved medieval town centre. Market day is Thursday.
Sarnano is home to the 13th century church of Santa Maria Assunta (pictured below) which houses a number of religious artworks. In Sarnano in late May and early June the Mostra Mercato is held - a celebration of art, craft and antiques; in August is held the annual Palio. Don't forget to look for the porchetta van! Several days a week this van is located in Sarnano's Piazza della Liberta and
sells succulent, savoury, herb-flavoured porchetta - a treat not to be missed.
